BAHAA EL ANSARY
"One of the young voices who play a part in shaping Egypt’s cultural future." – BBC Radio 3
Bahaa El-Ansary, born in 1991, is a distinguished composer and improviser recognized for his pioneering contributions to contemporary music. He graduated with distinction from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, where he completed a Master of Arts in Opera Making & Writing in collaboration with the Royal Opera House. His academic credentials are further complemented by studies at the Conservatoires of Bordeaux and Boulogne-Billancourt, and active participation in the 46th International Summer Course for New Music in Darmstadt.
Bahaa's work uniquely merges traditional musical forms with avant-garde techniques, where rhythmic complexity and live electronics meet in what he describes as "Energetic Music." This innovative approach has facilitated collaborations with major institutions such as the Royal Opera House & Shubbak Festival, and Ensemble Le Balcon at the Fondation Singer-Polignac. His works challenge traditional boundaries and have captivated audiences worldwide, with performances by leading ensembles across prestigious stages and festivals, including the MATA Festival in New York and Gaudeamus Muziekweek in Utrecht. His compositions are now published by BabelScores, reflecting a growing international presence.

An advocate for experimental music, Bahaa co-founded Cairo Impro in 2017, a series that promotes free improvisation, bringing together both emerging and established improvisers.
Currently, Bahaa is preparing to undertake PhD research at the Royal College of Music, focusing on the integration of AI-driven characters with live performers. This research aims to further redefine the interaction between technology and musical performance, promising to revolutionize the operatic and broader musical landscape.
